Take the badge off and paint it black and then put it back on
I have wanted to do similar things to my mustangs a 5.0 2011 and a v6 2008, and after asking my dad (hes redone cars his whole life) here's the conclusion we came to.
if you can afford to have it done at a shop this is def your best bet if not then
you have to remove ALL of the finish thats on it currently otherwise it will flake right back off, then rough up the surface, paint a base coat on until very dry, at least 72 hours, then varnish/paint a very resistant gloss over the final coat of paint.
tape around the emblem and tape it.
if you wanted it to look really good good just take off all the badges, at my shop we remove the badges and order new ones and paint those there only like 10 dollars.
and wow Ann Claire's answer is sooo wrong.
ive been working on auto customization for 26 years I own my own shop and that's not how we do it.
